Is is a different product than Currants (Vitis), which are small raisins commonly sold at most grocery stores.

Ribes nigrum, also known as Black Currant, or Cassis, is a small, deciduous bush that thrives in Central and Eastern Europe.
It grows well in full sun or part shade, in rich garden soil of temperate climate.
Black Currant berries contain 3 times as much Vitamin C as lemons, and are rich in anthocyanins, a cell protecting anti-oxidant, as well as gamma linoleic acid, an omega 6 linoleic acid.
The tart berries are used to create flavorful syrups, liqueurs, wines, vinegars, jams and marmalades.
The flavorful berries can be added to herbal fruit teas, or to hot cereals and baked goods.
